EightyTwenty- Jon Stewart is one of us

The title of my blog refers to what I consider news in my own personal life. 80% of the news that I hear on the radio, watch on T.V. or read about it is somehow related to sports. Probably about 75% of that is related to soccer, but that is another topic for another blog http://premierleague-zach.blogspot.com/. The remaining 20% relates to politics. Maybe thats sad, considering I am a Political Science major; mostly its sad because politicians have turned me off to the point where I refuse to pay much attention to them.

Dan Patrick tweeted that he wondered if Notre Dame fan's were hoping for a win or a loss from their team this weekend. This really made me think. What kind of fans are we that we root for our teams to lose in order to get real change in the organization. Some fans wish that the Pistons would tank this year in order to get a lottery pick next year. Personally, I think that belief is ridiculous. I would rather watch a mediocre team try and fail for a full year than watch a team tank on purpose.

Most of my other journalists were simpling tweeting that life is good because it is Sunday and football is on. I share this sentiment, but I praise Sundays for English Football and the drama that it brings.

I think that Jon Stewart's tweet that Stephen Colbert is blackmailing him shows why he is so loved and respected. The American people are not stupid, despite what the rest of the world thinks. We know that Politicians specialize in B.S. and do nothing more than take paychecks from wealthy lobbyists. We know that, and so does John Stewart. For that reason we do not consider Jon Stewart a host of a comedic talk-show focusing on politics. We view him as a talk-show host that looks at the comedy that is politics. The real jokers are the MSNBCs and CNNs who try to tell us to take politicians seriously.
